  • If you're working on a project, use the Blogs to keep track of it, and to keep the rest of the community informed about your project and its results.

  • Submit a news article or a link to other web pages too!

  • Use the Wiki and the FAQs to look for information, or to contribute some if you think others might find it useful too. We especially need help building the wiki.

Here's how wikis work - it's simple. Just create a page with whatever info you think is interesting, useful or whatever. It doesn't have to be great or even complete. Just something. Then other people can edit it, add to it, improve it, again and again and again, until we end up with some really good pages.

Here's some ideas for starter pages- we need one for every kind of catapult and trebuchet out there, how-to do things, like calculate your efficiency or make a trigger, major annual events, competitions and organizations, historical notes, technical notes, notable personalities, jargon and tangential topics like the best pumpkins for hurling, species of lumber, TV shows and movies, etc. etc. etc. Just throw anything in there. It will be improved over time.

TheHurl started out as a simple message board at Trebuchet.com way back in 1994. Since then, it has become the on-line epicenter of catapult design, construction and competition information. It is a friendly and helpful community of folks dedicated to having fun and spreading the joy of engineering to kids and hobbyists worldwide.

LiangJieming, 09:21 am, 06/29/2009: LOL! Ok walker. We're have to agree to disagree on this one. :D
RIPCORD, 07:58 am, 06/28/2009: "Slings" posting made on too little coffee or sleep but there it is.
SpringTreb, 08:03 am, 06/26/2009: Beam ratio PDFs. Hopefully these will be helpful to someone. :)
RIPCORD, 11:21 am, 06/19/2009: Morgana, the Kissing Bandit, is easy to find, albeit retired now. "Team Morgana" though...still searching.
Walker, 07:14 am, 06/19/2009: Anyone know how to get a hold of Morgana?
Walker, 06:54 am, 06/19/2009: Read the context, Liang. Arrows and great rocks were hurled. It takes more faith to fight it than to accept it as record.
RIPCORD, 09:51 am, 06/18/2009: I'd buy it too, if only to take aim on the 'boomer' cars that pass my home.
Murray, 04:48 pm, 06/16/2009: I'd buy it of I could afford it. I'll just have to settle for building one.
DARIVS_ARCHITECTVS, 01:12 am, 06/15/2009: 3/4 ton AUTHENTIC BALLISTA FOR SALE. See DARIVS ARCHITECTVS' post for details.
LiangJieming, 11:42 am, 06/11/2009: Didn't we have like this discussion already years ago? I think one conclusion was that those "machines" may have been simple rock slides, projectiles "rammed" down a chute shooting thru snd off the towers walls.
Thomas, 02:25 pm, 06/10/2009: Matters of faith are a touchy subject. Not many people see the Bible as an accurate historical record. It's doubtful that much in the way of "machines" existed at that time.
Walker, 08:04 am, 06/09/2009: All I'm saying is that the Persians got the idea from somewhere and Israel had the machines. invaded
Walker, 08:01 am, 06/09/2009: The same "researchers" who put the DOW later also interpret the unknown hebrew word as battering ram. Who puts battering rams on the towers to hurl great stones?
Walker, 07:42 am, 06/09/2009: I know skeptics place the date of writing much later than 791-739 BC where my conservative Biblical studies place the date. The Uzziah record from 2nd Chron 26:15 predates most any other treb record.
Walker, 07:39 am, 06/09/2009: Uzziah's "Machines" were placed on the battlements and hurled large stones and arrows. The concept could be stolen and reapplied.
LiangJieming, 12:13 pm, 06/08/2009: lol good point. Still, the evidence is intriguing. Hundreds of round 5-40lb stone balls, strong fortifications...
RIPCORD, 11:16 pm, 06/07/2009: Okay but, were the walls built in response to the catapults or the other way around? (Chicken or egg first?)
LiangJieming, 01:13 pm, 06/07/2009: Amélie Kuhrt argues in her 2002 paper on the excavations of the Tash-K’irman Oasis that 5th century BC Persian fortifications already show solid curtain walls of the type usually attributed to those introduced into Asia only AFTER Alexander's catapults
